Curaçao West Coast Road Trip: (one-day itinerary)

If you really want to experience the best of Curaçao, there’s nothing like renting a car and heading out for a proper road trip along the island’s wild and beautiful west coast. As locals, We’ve done this route more times than I can count, and we always find something new to love.

Here’s our perfect one-day itinerary, packed with insider tips, food stops, and can’t-miss sights.

1. Start Your Day Local-Style: Daniel Soda Fountain

There’s no better way to kick off your trip than with a fresh pastechi (local pastry) and cold coconut water at Daniel Soda Fountain. This roadside spot is as local as it gets, and you’ll likely rub elbows with friendly islanders on their morning commute. Order whatever just came out of the fryer—it’s always good—and don’t skip the coconut, especially if it’s already ice-cold.

2. Shete Boka National Park and/or Christoffelpark

From here, head to the rugged north coast. Shete Boka National Park is famous for dramatic blowholes and crashing surf, a total contrast to the calm beaches elsewhere. If you’re up for more exploring, visit the Christoffelpark.

Insider tip: Visit Landhuis Savonet (museum in Christoffelpark)

3. Lunch With a View: Restaurant Playa Forti

Time for a break! Playa Forti is a local favourite, not just for the tasty food but for the spectacular cliff-top view. Watch the fishing boats below, try the fresh catch of the day, and if you’re feeling brave, join the locals jumping off the famous cliff into the blue sea.

Insider tip: Ask for a table on the new terrace for the best sunset view.

4. Beach-Hopping: Grote Knip & Kleine Knip

No west coast trip is complete without a visit to Knip. Grote Knip (Playa Kenepa Grandi) is the postcard beach you’ve seen on Instagram—turquoise water, soft sand, and a laid-back vibe.

Insider tip: Kleine Knip (next to Grote Knip) is smaller, quieter, and loved by locals.

5. Playa Lagun

A narrow cove lined with colourful fishing boats, Playa Lagun is one of Curaçao’s best-kept secrets. The snorkelling here is fantastic, and you might spot turtles if you’re lucky. The cliffs on both sides offer some shade and the perfect place for a break.

Insider tip: The restaurant on top of the cliff overs an amazing view and the best cocktails!

6. Optional Nature Stop: Hofi Mango

Still have energy? Hofi Mango is a peaceful park with old mango trees and a short walking trail. It’s a cool, shady place to stretch your legs after all that beach lounging.

Insider tip: If you visit in mango season (usually June-July), you might get to taste fresh mangoes straight from the tree.

7. Santa Martha Viewpoint

Don’t miss this lookout for one of the most beautiful panoramic views on the island. Santa Martha Bay is especially stunning at sunset.

Insider tip: Stop here for photos and a moment of quiet. This is a hidden gem! There’s rarely a crowd.

8. Flamingo Sanctuary at Jan Kok

Wrap up your drive with a stop at the flamingo sanctuary in Jan Kok. Park the car and watch these beautiful birds strut through the shallow salt flats.

Insider tip: Late afternoon is the best time for photos, as the light turns golden.

9. Dinner: De Buurvrouw or Bali (Grote Berg)

By now, you’ll be hungry again. De Buurvrouw offers great steaks and skewers. A relaxed ambiance underneath the big palapa.

If you’re in the mood for something different, Bali in Grote Berg serves up delicious Indonesian food with a Caribbean twist.

Insider tip: Both restaurants can get busy, so it’s smart to make a reservation via their site in advance.
