Traveling to Curaçao with A Baby or Toddler
Taking your baby or toddler on their first big adventure to Curaçao is as exciting as it is daunting. You’re heading to a place with Caribbean blue waters, colorful streets, and warm, friendly locals—but how do you make sure your little one enjoys it too?
I’ve been there, and I know it can feel overwhelming, but with a bit of planning and the right mindset, you and your baby can have an amazing time on this beautiful island.
Curaçao is a very family-friendly destination. The streets of Willemstad are easy to explore with a travel stroller, and most restaurants offer baby chairs. The best part? The friendly locals who greet you with a warm smile.

Embrace Car Naps for Your Baby or Toddler
Curaçao is warm year-round, and while that’s perfect for beach lovers, it can be a bit much for babies.
I found that using car rides as nap times worked wonders. The car’s air conditioning offers a break from the heat, and the gentle motion can help lull your baby to sleep.
Plus, Curaçao’s landscape is stunning, so you’ll get to enjoy the drive between spots like Playa Lagun or Playa Porto Mari while your baby naps peacefully. It’s a win-win.
Gear Up for a Smooth Trip
When traveling with a baby or toddler, having the right gear can make all the difference. Here’s what worked well for us:
- Baby Beach Tent: This was our sanctuary on the beach. It provided shade, a break from the wind, and a safe space for our toddler to play or nap. We especially loved setting it up at Cas Abao, where the white sand and gentle waves made for a perfect day out.
- Oversized Beach Sheet: This gave us plenty of room to spread out, whether we were at the popular Grote Knip or the quieter Playa Jeremi. A good beach sheet means you can sit back and relax while your baby has space to crawl and explore.
- Travel Stroller: Opt for one that lays flat, so your baby can snooze on the go. Whether you’re strolling through the vibrant streets of Willemstad or making your way to Mambo Beach, a comfortable stroller is a must.
- Portable Fans and Cooling Towels: These were lifesavers in the midday heat. A quick wipe with a cooling towel or a breeze from a portable fan kept our little one cool and comfortable, even on the hottest days.
Plan Your Beach Days Wisely
Curaçao has no shortage of breathtaking beaches, but timing is everything when you have a baby or toddler in tow.
We found that getting to the beach early in the morning was key. The sun is less intense, the beaches are quieter, and the water is calm—perfect for a relaxed start to the day.
At Grote Knip, we arrived just after sunrise and had the place almost to ourselves. By the time the crowds arrived, we were ready to head back for a midday break.
If you’re up for exploring, Cas Abao is another fantastic spot with plenty of amenities and calm waters ideal for babies.
Most beaches have palapas, but make sure to get there early as those spots get taken fast!

Sun Protection: A Top Priority
The sun in Curaçao is strong, so protecting your baby’s skin is essential. Here’s how we managed:
- Float with a Shade: If you’re planning to dip into the clear waters at Playa Porto Mari, bring a float with a shade. It lets your baby enjoy the water while staying protected from the sun.
- Long Sleeve Swim Shirts and Hats: We dressed our toddler in long sleeve swimwear and a hat whenever we were outdoors. This not only provided sun protection but also kept her cool.
- Sunscreen: Don’t forget to pack a baby-safe sunscreen and apply it frequently. Even on cloudy days, those UV rays can sneak through.
Dining Out with a Baby or Toddler
Dining in Curaçao can be a bit tricky, especially if your baby isn’t used to the heat. Many indoor restaurants have airconditioning.
However, we found that outdoor dining worked best, especially at places with a fresh sea breeze. Consider packing a small fan to keep your baby cool during meals.
While dinner times could be challenging, the island’s relaxed vibe made it all worth it. Many restaurants are very accommodating to families—don’t be afraid to ask for a shady spot or a baby chair.

Embrace the Island Experience
Traveling with a baby or toddler changes the pace of your vacation, but it doesn’t have to lessen the experience. We found that slowing down allowed us to appreciate the beauty of Curaçao even more.
We enjoyed strolling through the colorful buildings in Willemstad or watching the sunset at Playa Kalki, we made incredible memories with our little one by our side.
Curaçao is a welcoming, family-friendly destination, and with a little preparation, you’ll find that it’s possible to have a fantastic vacation with your baby.
Take it slow, go with the flow, and most importantly, enjoy every moment of this special time with your little one on this beautiful island. Safe travels!
